girl-non-grata asked: I'm just really tired of the implication that unless something is universally applicable to all cultures (which is im-fucking-possible) then it is flawed and "problematic" and exclusionary and counter-productive.
If people want an issue to be addressed in a way best applicable to the culture, then they should take up arms and address it (like what the Slutwalks are doing). Human culture is too diverse to find any movement that isn't "problematic" in some way for some group somewhere.
i just think that “taking up arms and addressing it” is a lot easier for white american women to do. that’s the whole point. i don’t think anyone said the slutwalks are counter-productive. there are a whole lot of movements with perfectly good intentions that are problematic, or exclusionary without being counter-productive. there’s no need to be so defensive- it’s really just about understanding- yeah, this isn’t a perfect thing we got going on here, but i think we’re on the right track- let’s examine what’s problematic about it and maybe try to make some changes to it to minimize the problematic-ness of it?
