The thing that gets me about this whole thing? The way s/he writes and reasons? It’s obviously a real young kid. Like 11, 12, or 13. They don’t know the difference between basic homophones and aren’t literate at all. I’m all for giving the young ‘uns a teaching moment but maybe part of our privilege is expecting a child to get college level sociological concepts.
I get the anger over this, but it boggles me that anyone can read FYWP and not see this is a very uneducated kid yet incapable of broad concepts and figurative, analogical thinking. It’s not that the kid is refusing to learn… it’s just seriously and very obviously beyond their current reasoning skills.
i mean, i get that- but i guess i just don’t care. at all. mostly because i’m an admitted jerk. also because this is the internet and no one is being held to any type of real standard here- for all we know, this turd isn’t a kid at all, and is just a sophisticated troll. seriously- i feel you. i hate a pile on, and i hate bullying, but i don’t really feel responsible for whoever FYWP is and/or whether or not they can comprehend the concept of privilege.
i bet an 11, 12, 13 year old POC can identify and has experienced racism in his/her very short life. why can’t a white child of similar age not think critically about their own privilege, if they are given the proper resources and/or info to educate themselves? children are sponges. they can and they SHOULD learn.
